Great Lakes Brewery Introduces Orange Peel Ale
Great Lakes Brewery, Toronto ’s oldest craft brewery, introduces ORANGE PEEL ALE, a unique new beer naturally-brewed with oranges and orange peel.

Handcrafted with five specialty malts and five varieties of hops, along with a touch of honey, Great Lakes brewers added heaps of fresh oranges and peels into the boil to produce a refreshingly flavourful and fruity taste experience. The subtle orange aroma and taste is balanced by a slightly bitter aftertaste from the orange peels and hops. Pouring a beautiful bronze-orange colour, ORANGE PEEL ALE is the ideal beer to accompany a spring day.

“In our ongoing quest to bring consumers the most flavourful and unique beers possible, we feel ORANGE PEEL ALE is a real winner,” said Peter Bulut Jr., Vice President, Great Lakes Brewery.

Following Great Lakes’ successful (and sold-out) WINTER ALE brand that was infused with generous amounts of cinnamon, ginger, honey and orange peel, ORANGE PEEL ALE’s fresh and fruity flavour is bound to “a-peel” to anyone with an adventurous palate and a thirst for the taste of spring.

Available now through June, ORANGE PEEL ALE will be sold in 650 ml bottles at select LCBO stores across Ontario and at Great Lakes’ retail store near Royal York and the Gardiner Expressway, at 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd. And like Devil’s Pale Ale and Winter Ale before it, ORANGE PEEL ALE will be available on tap at numerous licensees in the GTA and beyond.

“Balancing the unique flavour of oranges with generous amounts of hops, ORANGE PEEL ALE stretches the boundaries of traditional beer taste with a fruity, invigorating flavour,” says Bulut Jr. “This unique brand cements our commitment to growth and producing an ever-expanding repertoire of unique and flavourful offerings.”

Dedicated to the art of brewing premium craft beer, Great Lakes produces three distinct styles of award-winning lagers: GOLDEN HORSESHOE, RED LEAF and 2006 World Beer Cup winner BLACK JACK. In late 2006 and early 2007, Great Lakes produced a zesty winter warmer called WINTER ALE, which sold out at the brewery’s retail store. The brewery also boasts another seasonal favorite, DEVIL’S PALE ALE, which caused a stir last fall at the 2006 Toronto Festival of Beer. Great Lakes Brewery focuses on the culinary aspects of beer, including recipe creation, food product development and beer and food pairings. In the summer, the brewery produces ICE CREAM BREW, an all-natural, premium vanilla ice cream created with GOLDEN HORSESHOE premium lager.

Great Lakes Brewery

A rising star within Ontario ’s craft brewing industry, this 100 per cent Canadian, family-owned business brews its premium beer in an historic fire-brewed copper kettle that dates back to the early 1900s. This time-honoured tradition, combined with today’s modern technologies, brings out the best in the brewery’s premium ingredients.

Conveniently located in Etobicoke on Queen Elizabeth Blvd. just north of the Gardiner Expressway, Great Lakes Brewery was launched in 1987 as part of the first wave of Canadian craft breweries. Originally a successful producer of draught for local pubs and restaurants, Great Lakes purchased a state-of-the-art bottling line from another Ontario brewery and began bottling its popular brands of award-winning lager in 2000: Golden Horseshoe, Red Leaf and Black Jack. With the addition of the new production facilities and a greater production capacity, Great Lakes has tapped into Ontario’s burgeoning craft beer market, now delivering from Ottawa to Fort Erie and as far north as Parry Sound.
